source: Musician - July 1985 - this information is contradicted by Sting's intro for the Brand New Day tour program, where he mentions that this was on December 5, 1984. But the Vic Garbarini article in Musician is very specific about January 1985 dates. Also Omar Hakim mentions that he first met Sting on Montserrat (while working there with Dire Straits in late December 1984), where Sting mentioned he was going to New York to put a band together.
