About the song
The song was the first one to be recorded on the first day of the Ten Summoner's Tales recording session (1992-08-10).
The band played If I Ever Lose My Faith In You five times. The bass was later replaced during mixing sessions at The Town House - on 1992-11-09 and 1992-11-23 (it was the only song to feature the Fender Precision bass), as were some guitar parts. The only overdubs were a harmonica part by Sting, a Synclavier organ and some percussion parts played by Sting and Vinnie Colaiuta on an old Linn. Sting's vocals and the Harmonica part of the song were recorded on a Sony 800 G microphone.
