About the song
The song was the first one to be recorded on the first day of the Ten Summoner's Tales recording session (1992-08-10).
The band played If I Ever Lose My Faith In You five times. The bass was later replaced during mixing sessions at The Town House (it was the only song to feature the Fender Precision bass), as were some guitar parts. The only overdubs were a harmonica part by Sting, a Synclavier organ and some percussion parts played by Sting and Vinnie Colaiuta on an old Linn. Sting's vocals and the Harmonica part of the song were recorded on a Sony 800 G microphone.
