Lyrics
The party on the left is the party on the right If there ain't no choice then there ain't no fight. The pride of the west is the shame of the east There's too much ego and not enough to eat. What they read between the words they read between the lines They see everything but they can't see that they're blind. You talk about this and they talk about that But talk is talk and facts are facts. Sit down, sit up, it's your situation what we want is participation. Sit down, sit up, it's your situation what we need is participation. Get behind me come on get behind me. How much longer must we wait for you to realize? We have got to put things straight 'cause we're running out of time. The leaders of the world should hide their heads in shame From cabinet to cabinet it's the price of fame. Pollution in the air, pollution in our minds But what we all want is to get some peace of mind. We're stuck to our TVs, we're glued to our seats We like to watch the news 'cause we're addicts for repeats. So put your money where your mouth is, put your fingess in the socke Wipe that smile off your face and take your hands out of your pockets Sit down, sit up, it's your situation what we want is participation Get behind me, come on get behind me. How much longer must we wait for you to realize? . . . How much longer must we wait for you to realize? It don't matter it don't matter to me But if no one cares then I despair we will drown in our apathy. Say what you will say what you like The question is: who would stand stand and take the blame? How much longer must we wait for you to realize? . . . How much longer must we wait for you to realize? . . . How much longer must we wait for you to realize? . . . How much longer must we wait for you to realize? . . .
Quotations and trivia
Re-Flex had previously supported The Police on their 1984 US tour.
Paul Fishman remembers: ""How Much Longer" was recorded after the tour and was to be included on the album "Humanication". It came about through our mutual friendship with engineer/producer "Smudge" Pete Smith. I wanted the world and his mother to sing on the chorus of a big "shouty" protest song. The next thing is that Sting he came down to Utopia Studios in Primrose Hill where we were recording. Stevie Wonder was also planning to join in and record a harmonica solo but never made it. Following this session and a few nasty experiences he had with some other producers, Sting asked Smudge and myself if we would be up for doing some work with him on his first solo album. Due to a dream about blue turtles (what was he on) and a change in musical direction, combined with a desperate need to jump ship, Sting ran off to the Bahamas with Smudge to Eddie Grant's place and started recording the "Dream" album. I stayed in the UK and did some work with Gus Dugeon on Elton John's latest album and also somewhat in contrast, an album with Public Image Ltd."
