Band history

Bob Geldof initiated the Band Aid project after seeing a documentary about Ethiopia on TV. He wrote Do They Know It's Christmas? with Midge Ure and assembled a large number of pop and rock stars to record the charity single on 1984-11-25.

(Midge Ure had previously recorded a demo - some musicians like John Taylor and Sting had done their parts in the days preceding 1984-11-25)
