Ray Shell was approached by Marsha Hunt for a job without knowing which band it was for. He was taken to Brixton Academy in a limousine and recognized that it was The Police he'd support. He was hired because Sting had a cold. In interviews Ray mentioned that he was sacked after about two weeks when Sting got better - but also mentioning that he was sent home right before the Shea Stadium gig.
