Introduction

The Decade opened in the Oakland district of Pittsburgh in 1973 at the corner of Atwood and Sennott Streets. It initially was a restaurant featuring oldies music from the 1950’s (the "decade" of music then favored by the owner, Dom DiSilvio). But by 1978, the Decade was featuring acts emerging from the new punk scene like the Ramones (the only band to ever play 2 consecutive nights at the venue), The Police, and U2, as well as local artists like Donnie Iris, Joe Grushecky and the Iron City Houserockers (the unofficial "house band"), and miscellaneous FOJG (Friends of Joe Grushecky, like Bruce Springsteen). The Decade closed on 21 Aug 1995. The location has since been a revolving door of various businesses, including a deli, a lesbian bar, a produce store, a bar called "Cumpie’s" and most recently, a bar called the "Garage Door Saloon".
