Allan Gittler built 60 of these minimalistic guitars in the late 70s to 1982, a later run of 300 featured plastic parts. From the initial New York run forty were sold through the mail, and twenty from Allan Gittler's apartment on the Lower East Side - that's where Andy bought his. Bravo from July 22, 1982 features a photo with the guitar that looks like it might have been taken on 1982-03-30.

One of the originals is shown in New York's Museum of Modern Art.

Andy Summers used a Gittler Guitar in the Synchronicity II video and some photo shoots.
